The music discographies on this site are works in progress. If you
notice that a particular Opeth CD release or compilation is missing
from the list above, please submit that CD using the CD submission page.
The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Brutal Metal
as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live
compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. Please only submit official
CD releases; no bootlegs or cassette-only or LP-only releases.
EPs and CD-singles from Opeth are also welcome to be added, as
long as they are at least 4 songs in length.

Well, we shouldn't have been surprised. Akerfeldt had been trying to warn us, in his vague roundabout way, saying how their next album would be "different" and 'not what you expect." Son of a bitch got that right. On Heritage, he indulges his love of obscure '70's prog-rock and jazz to levels never before heard on any previous Opeth records. I'm not just complaining because it's not death-metal all the way. I actually really enjoyed their mostly acoustic Damnation album from 2003, and look forward to the mellow moments on their other discs. That's what I like best about Opeth, the jarring contrasts between heavy and soft. Heritage is just plain boring. A few songs show promise, but NONE of them are able to hold my interest. Easily my least favorite Opeth release, by far.
