| One song that really stood out on the previous album was "Beneath Broken Earth," a crawling doom dirge amid comparative more uptempo (but not upbeat) fare. That track seems to be the springboard for the next release. Medusa is almost like a mirror image of The Plague Within, in that it's almost all slow, slower and slowest, with one song ("Blood And Chaos") that you can actually headbang to. One thing that hasn't changed is the high quality of songs, as downtrodden delights abound including "Fearless Sky," "The Longest Winter," "No Passage For The Dead," the aforementioned "Blood And Chaos," and the title track. There are also two extremely good bonus tracks, which is something the band has long been known for. This is the heaviest, doomiest the band has been since Gothic, but what I consider that album's sloppiness and inexperience has been replaced here by precision and wisdom. Talk about a late-career renaissance! I can't say enough good things about the last decade of Paradise Lost
