Vader are, of course, the kings of Polish death metal, and Litany is one of their better albums. Plenty of blastbeats and whammy-bar freakouts, but a big share of thrashy grooves as well, and Peter's vocals, while not exactly intelligible, never sink to the level of gurgly guttural-ness of a Chris Barnes or Dallas Toller-Wade. It's more of a hoarse bark, and makes the music seem a little more accessible than some death-metal bands--although, in truth, Vader can be as extreme as anybody. Their songs never drag on longer than they need to (four are undeer the two-minute mark), as Vader's specialty isn't experimentation or sprawling compositions. THey deal in brutality. "Xeper" was the first Vader song I ever heard, and is still my favorite from this disc, but "Wings," "Cold Demons," "The Calling," "World Of Hurt" and "The Last Massacre" are all great.
