A great outing by the jungle men. This one had them in the running with Megadeth, Slayer & Metallica. Highly over looked in the USA. This one is a Classic in the making, while it's not Chaos A.D. it's equally as great! If you haven't ever heard Sepultura this would be a great introduction to them, at least to the Max era... 10.0 on the SWINE SCALE!

Exactly: not as Chaos A.D. but it's sure kickin' *ss!

Mas comercial(si se puede usar esta palabra)que sus discos anteriores, pero estamos ante el punto máximo del Thrash ,Sepultura despues de este disco ya no serian lo mismo y el Thrash tampoco.DEMOLEDOR.

Excellent album once again, the best along with beneath the remains, no doubt!

If this is Thrash then i`m Santa Clause ! This is death metal and one of the best Sepultura albums.

Best shit ever produced by Sepultura ! Buy or Die !

I have never considered Sepultura to be death metal band, although that is the label they wear. I see Beneath the Remains'and Arise as just fine examples of technical thrash metal. Lots of straight forward thrashers on this one and a few fast, blast beat songs. There are also the more complex stuff that Sepultura did so well. Altered State combines a Brazillian intro with a killer, grinding riff and even some acoustic parts. Killer Motorhead cover! http://www.nolifetilmetal.com/sepultura.htm

sepultura is thrash metal fucking ignorant. If you dont now i am going to take the time to explain something to you. Death metal is a direct evolution of thrash metal. Death metal is very similar in meny aspects to thrash. But people who now about music are not going to confuse thrash and death. Sepultura is a thrash metal band but is very potent but it is not death metal. Its like Kreator some people think this band is death and it was an influence tomany death metla bands and it has some death

From: Date: May 19, 2003 at 4:51
sparks on it but Kreator has always been a thrash metal band.

From: erik Date: July 10, 2003 at 17:40

I AM BRASILIAN , I BOUGHT THIS ONE IN 1991 AND I HATE THIS ALBUM. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT STAYS ON THE SAME GROUND NOTE ALL THE TIME. THE WORST THRASH/DEATH METAL CD EVER RECORDED

From: Zze Date: October 21, 2003 at 4:29
about the style, bands can´t be put on shelves so labels are just an approxiamtion of the style of the band. Sepultura was clearly Death Metal in their early days, they developed to be a Thrash/Death band on this horrible record ( thats why the songs sound like the same, because this is thrash bordering on death metal, just like old SODOM but of course less inspired ) so if you say this album is thrash metal or death metal, you´re correct on both, because Max and Co has always loved bands like P

CREO QUE SEPULTURA ES UNA BANDA THRASH CON ALGUNOS MATICES DEATH, PERO QUE EN NINGUNA CRICUNSTANCIA PUEDE SER CONSIDERADA COMO UNA BANDA DEATH METAL EN SI. Y LOS IMBECILES QUE DIGAN LO CONTRARIO QUE JODAN A SU MADRE. INDUDABLEMENTE SU MEJOR DISCO. DESPUES DE ESTO LO QUE VINO ES PORQUERIA

Certainly Sepultura may be considered Death Metal, it will depend of the style that the person is into. I particularly consider This album to be Thrash/Death , some people into more melodic Metal may say this is Death Metal, Some people into more extreme Metal may even say its heavy metal, etc, in general , this is a borderline between thrash and death ( exactly as some of the older stuff od Sodom ). but...

As a brasilian that I am, I must say that the best brasilian Thrash band is NOT Sepultura but KORZUS. KORZUS RULE !!! Korzus has a souns that is Total Thrash in the same vein of Slayer

You just cannot go wrong with this disc. At a time when old-school thrash was starting to get a little tired, and the original masters who ruled the underground were flirting with mainstream acceptance (and the musical concessions that come with it), Sepultura were just coming into their own. It's like a middle point between thrash and death metal: it has the riff power of old Slayer, but the filthy sound of Obituary (Scott Burns and Morrisound?). Which isn't to say it's poorly-produced (unlike their earliest work, which is all but unlistenable). The sound is great, with all instruments easily heard. But there's just something about the way these guys played that was so raw compared to soething like Rust In Peace or Master of Puppets. The entire disc is just riff after riff, with nearly constant ferocity from all corners. I have a greater personal attachment to Chaos A.D., but objectively, Arise is the better album.
