My favorite of Overkill's late-90's stuff (altho NECROSHINE comes close), except for the rather silly sounding, out of place ballad "Promises"... what the heck is that goofy thing doing stuck in the middle of all out destroyers like "Rip-N-Tear" and "F.U.C.T.?"

Some modern grooves are creeping into Overkill s sound. However, songs like "It Lives," "Rip n' Tear" and "Little Bit O' Murder" are all speed metal tunes but with a bit more groove in the riffs. This is actually a nice change as compared to the play it as fast as you can attitude of the past. "Promises" is a ballad!? Yes, an Overkill ballad. It isn't bad; I actually enjoyed hearing the more melodic nature of this track. Probably my favorite post "Horrorscope" album. www.nolifetilmetal.com

PURE POWER, pure brutal unique style provided by the best band in the world: OVERKILL. "It lives" means destruction, and you can take a tap dance with the "rip'n'tear", you can cry with "promises" and if you don't like this cd you are f.u.c.t.

This album's consistent heavy groovin' makes it not only my favorite OverKill album, but it's always in the top 3 of ALL my thousands of CDs. To me that's saying a lot!

An oft-overlooked album in the Overkill canon—just check the release date. 1997 was a tough, tough time for classic metal. Plus, CMC were not good at, or not focused on, marketing their bands in the States, concentrating on Europe. Too bad, because while the previous year's The Killing Kind had its moments but left much to be desired, From The Underground And Below is a sleeper classic from Blitz, DD and the gang. The ill-advised attempt at a ballad, "Pomises," is the only clunker here, although "Half Past Dead" does run on a bit long. Particular favorites for me include the slammin' opener "It Lives," the would-be single "Long Time Dyin'," the sneering "FUCT" and the (relative) fun of "The Rip 'n' Tear." Some folks prefer Necroshine as the band's true rebirth, but to me, they're almost like sonic twins.
