who thought they could have matched 'amongst the catacombs'? every track on this album is absolutely bludgeoning... and then the epic chants and atmospheric samples kick in and floor you. 'defiling the gates of ishtar' and 'masturbating the war god' are pinnacles of death metal achievement. and then the last track 'to dream of ur'... wow, just close your eyes and you'll find yourself in ancient egypt, staring at its full splendor. this album leaves you exhausted and craving more...

wow! this album is possibly the heaviest ive ever heard. its also one of the best. the drumming is just fucking insane! the guitars are tremolo picked riffs and the bass is simple root notes - works for me! ive listened to this album about 60 and im still not bored of it. buy it now or die!

This album is fucking Insane. Nile is the best and heaviest Death Metal band to date. In Their Darkened Shrines makes B.S.O.V Even look silly. They get better every time.

Nile are one of the heaviest bands on the planet!! The album after this 'In My Darkened Shrines' is absolutly terrifying at first for casual Death metal listeners!! I agree, this album is heavier, more speedy and brutal than their previous album debut. they(Karl Sanders) keep writing the same Egyptian theme. If you are into Suffocation/Morbid Angel stuff this is for you. 88/100
