It's cool when Primus fans find out about Possessed because Larry Lalonde was in it. If they think it sounds like Primus, they REALLY are in for a shock. Bottom line...Primus blows, Possessed rule.

From: Dan Poe Date: August 1, 2001 at 21:25
Uhh...This is not great, if you like Venom at their worst, it will do the trick.

From: Zamzack Date: December 30, 2001 at 12:41
Old style death metal!!!! This is how brutal metal really started...

From: Morbid_Angel Date: January 21, 2002 at 11:45
POSSESSED!!! SEVEN CHURCHES RULEZ!!!! HOLY HELL DEATH TO US!!!! THIS IS REAL DEATH METAL GROUP!!!! IT'NOT SPEED/THRASH IT'S DEATH METAL!!!!!!

From: PaterSlovenske Date: August 25, 2002 at 22:31
I'm a die-hard Primus fan and also a Blind Illusion fan, but i've never heard Possessed, it must sound like Blind Illusion. If it does, then it is excellent Trash Metal music, as good as Metallica's early days.

From: ChrisRezendes Date: February 19, 2003 at 16:06
Possessed were truly the pioneers of the death metal scene, and their influence can easily be heard in early Cannibal Corpse and Death. Seven Churches was raw, thrash/death at it's best, and for it's day, this was one fucking BRUTAL album. Songs like "Pentagram", "Seven Churches", and "Fallen Angel" completely own all your asses. Anybody who doesn't like Possessed doesn't have a right to call themselves a true metal fan.

From: MARIOS-INDIANOS Date: April 21, 2003 at 14:20
POSSESSED RULES ! THIS IS THE FIRST DEATH METAL ALBUM. ONCE THEY ASKED CHUCK SCHULDINER WHAT HE THINKS ABOUT DEATH'S DEATH METAL DEBUT (SCREAM BLOODY GORE) AND HE TOLD THAT FOR HIM THE FIRST DEATH METAL BAND WAS POSSESSED WHO ALSO INSPIRED HIM AND N O T DEATH. DEATH CAME AFTER.THAT IS FOR THE GUYS WHO TELL SHIT ABOUT POSSESSED AND DON'T KNOW THE DEATH METAL HISTORY WELL TO TELL THEMSELVES DEATH METAL FUNS! YOU PIECES OF SHIT.LEARN FITSR AND THEN YOU CRITICISE.MOTHAFUCKERS!! RESPECT TO POSSESSED!

Seven Churches is The ultimate satanic Death Metal album of all time.

From: Strat Date: August 22, 2003 at 6:28
It sounds like some of you are a little confused. This band's sound doesn't come close to anything that even resembles main stream. I have heard Primus. I don't want to confuse any of their fans. It would not be a fair comparison. Two great bands, two different styles....ENJOY!

From: Zze Date: October 18, 2003 at 8:31
I heard Beyond the Gates and it didnīt impress me. I read an interview with Mille of Kreator and he said that " pleasure to Kill" was massively influenced by this disc, so yes, this may be the first band to be considered Death Metal, altoguth its EARLY Death Metal, sounding a bit different from stuff like Suffocation and Napalm Death. anyways, I leave these opinions for those who understand about this genre. the only Death Metal band I like is Carcass

From: saan Date: April 7, 2004 at 17:34
Possessed kick ass!! NO other band has inspired me 2 play death metal more than them!! Seven Churches by far one of the best rock albums ever!!!

From: robjohnson Date: April 28, 2004 at 15:36
Above posters are correct. Possessed influenced "Death" and was the FIRST death metal band. There is a great demo mix of "Swing of the Axe" found on the Metal Blade comp. series called "metal massacre" I belive it was on MM#6... it's a better mix than the album version IMHO. Possessed are from my home town El Sobrante. They came up on the Bay Area metal scene right along Metallica and Exodus. Larry joined Blind Illussion and did one album. Then it was on to Primus. Obviously totally different so

Possessed is the fucking most crazy band in the 80's.

From: slavneacknon Date: June 12, 2004 at 3:25
Possessed was a great band. They played some of the most brutal, awe inspiring stuff. Live, they were insanity at war with legions of devils on acid.

From: Slayerized Date: June 21, 2004 at 19:56
OBEY POSSESSED OR DIE!

From: miguel tipacti Date: July 6, 2004 at 0:35
a masterpiece of death metal. the best work of the band in all aspects. this is the brother of death's-scream bloody gore.

From: Carlos Brasil Date: July 8, 2004 at 9:53
Possessed was billions light-years far away ahead of its time. It shocked world metal panorama because they were so avantguard. All other band came AFTER Possessed!!! POSSESSED IS THE DEATH METAL!!! Everything else is just blah-blah-blah

From: Satan Date: July 8, 2004 at 20:55
Even if I loved Chuck Schuldiner's devotion, Possessed was the death metal band for excelence. Proud of them.

From: satan Date: July 18, 2004 at 23:15
this album is definately a kick ass! anyone likes old style death metal this is it, the true creators are here gentlemen! pure talent! pure death metal, vocals raging liek satan himself, guitars in mystical heavy roars, quick high bass, and double bass chopping drums, this is just amazing, there is nothing better than this, i would say this is the best death metal album ever, by far! in everyway! it even sold more than 800'000 copies!

From: Desecrator Date: July 20, 2004 at 16:57
Truly one of the greatest unholy albums of all time!! A tremendous inspiration to all of us Norwegian shadow-dancers..

From: Steve Date: February 7, 2005 at 1:51
Umm, i've heard some stuff off this but it dosent come close to Kreator's 'Endless Pain' (which was released in 1985 as well) in terms of intensity and brute force! I'd say that Endless Pain was the first 'real' death metal album, with screechy, demonic vocals and Kreator's 'Pleasure to Kill' was one of the fastest albums for the time! So in my opinion, Kreator invented 'true' death metal, not The Possessed!

From: fanfrom Croatia Date: April 27, 2005 at 3:17
SEVEN CHURCHES!!!!!, definitely the best DEATH (not speed/trash) album I've ever heard, especially: The Exorcist, Pentagram, Death Metal. Oh, yes did I mention that I'm a christian?

From: Metal T Date: August 25, 2005 at 9:51
...if you could get past the blatant satanic imagery these guys used, and the vocals (death metal vocals have never been my cup of tea) there was some very nice shredding on this thing .

From: Metalhead66 Date: August 26, 2005 at 13:54
I still have this one on tape ,from 85 no less,I agree that the lyrics are NOT my thing at all,but the music is really good, slayerish, but along with Venom,Slayer,HellHammer etc.. one of the Earlier Death Groups....Spot Larry Lalonde from Primus and get a 100 points.

From: juan carlos Date: June 12, 2008 at 0:34
Proto Death Metal? Primordial disco. 9/10
