So Jon Schaffer fired Tim Owens just before Christmas, via the Internet, and Tim with a new baby at home. Contradicted most of the praise he'd heaped on Ripper at first, accused him of not giving Iced Earth his all. Re-enter Matt Barlow. So, mixed feelings here. On the one hand, Barlow (who grew up in my neck of the woods, and now is a policeman in the area--never met the man, though) is "the voice" of Iced Earth. On the other hand, the Ripper-sung Framing Armageddon didn't move me at all, and I wasn't loooking forward to the second half of that bloated concept album, and face it, the way Ripper was let go wasn't cool. And the Crucible Of Man, despite a handful of good songs ("I Walk Alone" the only one i can recall offhand), it just sounds like more of the same old thing. Funny how some bands can keep the same formula interesting album after album, and others, like Iced Earth, just can't. Plus, Schaffer is way more interested in this dumb storyline than anybody else.
