Tool has outdone themselves. This CD has everything from progressive metal with 'Schism' to powerful, in-your-face metal with 'Ticks & Leeches'. 'Schism' and 'Lateralus' highlight an awesome disc. A must have for any modern rock or Tool fan.

this is probably the best fucking record of all time. most nu metal bands couldn't even write filler songs like eon blue apoclypse in their sleep. I read an article in metal edge once where p.o.d. mocked maynard and tool for being anti god and hypocrites. p.o.d, you can suck gods dick all you want, but it doesn't make your music any good, listen to tool and learn how to write rock. Tool fucking rules, this is their masterpiece!

uhhh.... in case eveyone failed to notice Tool isn't a metal band at all. Or am I just a dumbass? Still a great, and VERY long, album. I got it and liked it and you better do the same or else I'll eat your heart!!

Very good CD. Very very awesome band. I like Aenima a bit better though. And I won't judge Undertow up to it, because Undertow has it's little something that I just love.

death Blooms, I have read three of your reviews today and I have a question for you. Can you form a sentence without uttering the same expletive several times? This is one of the reasons people think metalheads are morons! Buy a dictionary and expand your vocabulary. TOOL is NOT metal!

Tool is not nu-metal dammit. They've been badass drug rock since 92 fuckers.

Who cares what style of metal they are. This CD rocks nonetheless.

While they have achieved great things in the past, this album sounds like some wanky prog-type shit, but not as interesting or technical as other prog-metal wanksters of their time. Kind of like a really heavy Genesis. Kickass music, but pretentious twaddle for lyrics. The Grudge is one ass kicker of a tune, I must say.

I have to say it, I personally think that Tool cannot be pigeon-holed under one specific style. However, to say that Tool's lyrics are pretentious demonstrates that you haven't really listened to them. Songs like Parabol/Parabola, Reflection and Lateralus, for example, contain immense depth rarely seen in any music nowadays. In other words, TOOL ROCKS!!!! Interesting side-note, the sound on track four of Lateralus, called Mantra, is really a cat being squeezed in slow motion.

Some really mesmerising and compelling stuff on this record, but on the whole it tends to be really bombastic and proggy, like a super heavy Genesis or something. Maybe I just expected more from these guys. Check out Meshuggah, their opening act on the last tour. Now those guys are progressive and yet still immensely heavy and accessible to the average metal fan (and no, Nu-metal doesn't count as metal. And nu-metal fans don't count as metal fans, even if they are into Tool).
