|My god this album rocked in the day way ahead of its time. But jeezz can you stop the singer from sucking? Guess not hes not to bad when hes not screaming. Great effort though.

|Amazing album. Set the standard way back then. No one came close to this metal intensity at the time. HUGE guitars and blistering songs.....excellent.

|Recipe for a great party: Get a bunch of metal friends, drink a bunch of beers and BLAST this entire album, singing along loudly to the cover of Deep Purple's "Highway Star". Tons of fun as long as the neighbors don't call the cops on you.

|A Classic Heavy Metal album. Your Metal collection is NOT complete without this one. Wayne's vocals are a little strange, but that's part of what makes this CD great. A true Metal masterpiece.

|Metal Church st cd has got to be one of the best metal cd of the 80s.The production and mix was just right ,show cased the bands heavy raw sound just enough and with David Wayne vocals gave the band the right combination for greatness. One thing about this cd and the dark ,they don't have that dated sound that some of the other metal bands do .Metal Church was ahead of it's time ,I think in lager part because of Terry Date the producer who let these guys just do it the Metal Church way (RAW).

|"Classic" is a word thrown around way too d*mn often to describe what is really sometimes a mediocre or sub-par metal album."Metal Church",however made their case with this s.o.b."Beyond The Black","Gods Of Wrath","Hitman" and the title track being proof. With Wayne's voice bringing more attitude to the band,as opposed to their future releases with Mike Howe' on vox. ----

|One of the best metal albums of the 80's. Not many songs around like 'Beyond the black'. Great guitars, great tunes, don't miss this one 9/10

|Uno de mis discos de Heavy Metal(con su roce al trash) favoritos de todos los tiempos, que atmosfera da escalofrio un sonido legendario es como si el Fenix resurgiera desde lo mas profundo.

|Blows away anything Crapallica' ever did ! David Wayne (R.I.P.) had vocal power and range beyond Hetfield and was by far superior ... Go pick some melons !

|Wow guys i'm gonna be the black sheep in here but i think this is just a simple metal album,ok,good songs in it such as "Beyond The Black","Merciless Onslaught"(good instrumental),"Gods Of Wrath"(nice mid tempo),"In The Blood" & "Highway Star"(decent Deep Purple cover)but probably lacking of a real punch(we all know that Metal Church is a Thrash act that is mandatory in any self respected headbanger nowadays but probably this debut wasn't that great if you compare it to the cult status they have gained)...just a personal opinion and respecting each one of the comments above...65/100

|ok debut for METAL CHURCH back in 85 with an excellent production and very good musicianship!especially the guitar work is outstanding and overall they achieve a very heavy solid sound with a fine metal vibe!"beyond the black" and "metal church " are the highlights of a release that will satisfy all oldschool heavy metallers

|First released independently in 1984 and then picked up by Elektra and reissued the next year, Metal Church's debut comes storming out of the gate with a sound that dabbles in thrash, but is not as all-in as the Big Four, which kinda puts them on the same level as Armored Saint. There are some cheesy elements—remember the times—like the voice-over that opens the album and the lyrics to the title track, but overall this is one strong, underrated release. Great production as well, with loud bass, crisp drumming (killer performances by Arrington) and nasty, grinding riffs topped by the banshee screech of the late David Wayne—easy to imagine Blitz Ellsworth listening very closely. Thrashy moments abound in "Hitman," "My Favorite Nightmare," "Battalions" and the instrumental "Merciless Onslaught," while things cool down for the sort-of-ballad "Gods Of Wrath." The best track though is the ripping opener "Beyond The Black." The unhinged cover of "Highway Star" is entertaining as well.
