If you notice that a particular Slayer CD release or compilation is missing from the list above, please submit that CD using the CD submission page. The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Brutal Metal as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. Please only submit official CD releases; no bootlegs or cassette-only or LP-only releases.

EPs and CD-singles from Slayer are also welcome to be added, as long as they are at least 4 songs in length.

in 1986, tony scaglione was briefly a touring drummer for slayer. he was also in whiplash, and some other bands. check out whiplash's power and pain.

Slayer truly are exceptional musicians, more competent on their instruments than manowar. Who really cares if manowar can kick Slayers ass in hand to hand combat, it's not important and no-one with a brain cares. Manowar are a good band, but Slayer are faster, heavier and technically more sound, you can't argue with that. This album is by far their best, although south of heaven was pretty good. Where is manowar now??? and do they command the respect that Slayer do? I THINK NOT!!!

The most astonishing thrash album of all time. Simple as that. Angel Of Death is breathtaking and the album as a whole is masterful. 28 minutes of nastiness, pain and spite. Any person who likes guitar based music should buy this. There are two filler tracks but these would normally be high points on another album but the rest of the jewels here outshine them so much. In this genre, this album is timeless and defining. Get it.

What would be of Thrash Metal without this album. this is THE thrash metal album, not speed , this is THRASH aaaaa Slayer showed with this one that heavy music had no limits and I believe that this record heavily influences the Death Metal movement that would come later

This is not intented to be a Manowar bashing session. both Slayer and Manowar do make some great music however Slayer is much more important for Metal than Manowar.

This album is by far the single most overrated metal album of all time. In particular the songs Angel of Death and Raining Blood are the two most extraordinarily overrated metal songs of all time by a mile. They are quite exceptionally ordinary. Not very imaginative, with lousy vocals. Yet somehow every metalhead wannabe geek touts this as the be all and end all of metal, as if doign so will somehow lend them some credibility. Wake up, this stuff is mediocre.

Who impresses you 'unimpressed'?? Remember when this album was released...1986. Looked at in context of the time, it was groundbreaking and earthshaking. When viewed in today's context, yes, it would seem a little overrated. You have to use your head and view these things in context and subjectively!! Music and instrumental prowess has progressed since 1986. I remember when G'n'Rs 1987 debut 'Appetite for Destruction' was seen as the benchmark for hard rock...how is it viewed now?? USE YOUR HEAD

I agree, things should be taken in the context of the time they came out. However even doing so I still feel Slayer is mediocre stuff. Compare it to other mid-80s metal bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden and it just doesn't cut the mustard. I'm not worried about how music has progressed, I love 80s metal right now! And I'm not claiming their musical prowess is lacking, simply that their music isn't that good. It's actually ok, just badly over-rated, both back then and now.

Ok, This album is a great thrash slayer style album, and there isnt much of an alternative, i have nothing against manowar, but this is thrash without steroids unlike manowar with theyre big black suits and stupid little playback concert scheemes, if you are to compare manowar and slayer, go for slayer, if you are heavy metal, go for manowar, simply put.

I had never been a big slayer fan until just recently. My new girlfriend is really into them, so I decided to give this disc a try one day, and man....this is some kick-ass-true meatal. I really like the ripping guitars, and the mashing drums, I am a Slayer fan now! I will be listening to more of their stuff, and cant wait to see them live on Ozzfest this summer. Oh, and I do like Manowar.....but what the hell does that have to do with reviewing Reign In Blood?

This is more like it. They have finally found their sound. The bookend tracks 'Angel Of Death' and 'Raining Blood' standout more than everything in between. Which is the one problem here, tracks 2-9 are pretty interchangeable. But complaints aside, this is a thrash classic. 9/10

not sure i agree with you entirely unimpressed this is a great album and angel of death and raining blood are some of thier finer work but i agree with you wholehardedly slayer are overrated i seen them live with megadeth dave and co went on first and blew slayer away they're not in megadeth,(old metallica) or maiden's class but this is a thrash classic simple as that i may offend people but i think south of heaven was much better

What a difference good production makes! Enter Rick Rubin, who turns down the reverb and gives a crystal-clear, diamond-hard sound to Slayer's "next ten songseaz they self-deprecatingly referred to this metal landmark. The band continue to improve on their instruments as well, with classic riffs, those demented solos, and of course Lombardo's monstrous drumming. Thirty-five years later, with all manner of extreme metal available to terrorize your neighbors, Slayer may no longer be the ultimate in brutality, strictly speaking, but this record still packs an enormous wallop that is just undeniable. I might generally prefer the greater diversity of Seasons In The Abyss, but when I've had a really shitty day and am just fed up with humanity, it's Reign In Blood all the way.

Highlights are of course "Angel Of Death" and its crushing midsection leading into the deranged guitar battle, and the indivisible "Postmortem" and "Raining Blood" (early pressings contained a mastering error that misplaced the transition between two songs by about forty seconds). Many delights lurk between those two bookends, however. At times, Tom has trouble keeping up vocally, reducing his lyrics to a frenzied babble that only enhances the unhinged character of the music. It's interesting to note how the two great thrash monoliths of 1986 take opposite approaches, with Metallica going for inqeasingly progressive compositions, and Slayer just bludgeoning you into submission in about half the time.
