Don't really like nu-metal stuff, but my brother in law digs this and was playing this CD in his truck one day. I have to admit, the cover of the Tears For Fears song 'Shout' cracked me the hell up. Probably the coolest cover song I've heard in a while. Rest of the album did nothing for me tho, sorry.

From: cexshun Date: July 17, 2002 at 15:55
I think this cd gets away from the rap-rock-metal shit out there like linkin park. Probably the most metal-like cd in the mainstream. I personal like it.

From: LordWorm Date: August 24, 2002 at 7:48
Just another Korn soundalike, Nu-metal in it most crap style: trying to be heavy but failing miserably. The vocalist has to one of annoying of the genre, trying to scare people with his eratic screaming but only causing annoyance. This is better than linkin park, but it still sucks ass. Try Crytopsy if you want heavy.

From: kote panjang Date: August 30, 2002 at 2:28
Disturbed rocks! LinkinFuck may shit and eat it back!

From: NIKKIRAYSIMMONS Date: September 3, 2002 at 23:46
SUCKASS? MUST BE TALKING FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE?! ANY HOW, WHAT CAN BE SAID ABOUT THIS BAND & DISC THAT HASN'T BEEN SAID ALREADY? YES, IT'S NUMETAL, BUT ONE OF THE FEW THAT WILL REMAIN AFTER THE GENRE'S TIME HAS COME & GONE(I.E. GRUNGE, PEARL JAM & ALICE IN CHAINS). RAWK!

From: She Date: September 6, 2002 at 11:54
They are the greatest Metal band that has some brains and meaning to come out in a while. Love em, seen em!

From: Funker Date: September 12, 2002 at 18:57
This shit rocks. Disturbed owns, this is one of those few CD's i can actually stand listening to more than 10 times. Will be interesting to see how good their new CD is......5 days away.

From: cryptsadist Date: September 17, 2002 at 18:36
this band is pretty amazing, and different from all fucking commercial bands. Even though we can notice some repetition in their songs.

From: Damien Date: October 11, 2002 at 11:30
Classical metal my pale white ass! Oh well we all make mistakes. I personally like Disturbed but I can only stand so much of this Cd at once! It has some really good songs but I think your better off burning a copy rather than buying it, unless ya get it under ten bucks. Their new Cd is just an overpopular pisser!

From: Kittie of Filth Date: October 23, 2002 at 19:23
This C.d.is not all that great but its cathcy pesonally i try not to listen to nu metal but my friend samantha had it on and i got to say not bad for 'nu-Metal'

From: jason (FA-Q) Date: June 30, 2003 at 19:34
I don't know?........ The second album from these guys might even be better than this one? What do you think?

From: Azazel Date: September 1, 2003 at 20:18
These guys are the better part of 'Radio metal' but still...don't waste your money on this cd, if you like to kick back, crank up your metal and headbang, this cd ain't going to do it. These guys to me are borderline between posers and true metal...

From: Rihjah Date: November 3, 2003 at 21:25
I like Disturbed, I doubt they're 'Classic Metal' though. More Nu than anything.

From: ????? Date: November 4, 2003 at 8:46

From: Date: May 12, 2004 at 21:02
Disturbed is one of those bands that prove that not all nu-metal sucks.

From: metal-man Date: May 21, 2004 at 11:19
Great band for the time they debut. Its great they are trying to keep some creativity in the music biz. They Contribute to the last of a hopefully not dying breed.

From: andrew Date: June 11, 2004 at 10:39
disturbed is the shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: dickie_bow Date: July 5, 2004 at 19:22
i think this album is pretty fucking good, i dont htink their nu metal, i think they come into a group on their own, the new albums ok but it lacks the attitude of the 1st one, and the singer seems to of found his soul, but still a promising band for the future!!

From: liz Date: July 10, 2004 at 8:38
disturdeb is way awesome...includin prayer n down with the sickness...so cool...

This band is awesome but they are by no means CLASSIC METAL!! They are more Industrial Metal! Still an awesome band nevertheless! Stupify, Fear and Shout 2000 are awesome!!

From: Supernaut Date: May 12, 2005 at 14:04
Disturbed is not classic metal, hell, they are barely a band!!!

From: KISS Date: July 31, 2005 at 13:11
What a bunch nu-crap, this is not classic metal. They are very different from iron maiden, diamond head, dio, savatage's style etc. If you want good new metal, hammerfall, nightwish, rhapsody, primal fear is much, much better and they are pure classic metal too. Get disturbed outta this genre and put it beside the nu-metal crap genre.

From: twisted_vikki Date: August 20, 2005 at 8:36
Disturbedd is not classic metal but they rock better than Korn,Limp Biskshit or Liking Park. They are good.I hate nu-metal but the guys rock

From: AhhihiKill Date: September 17, 2005 at 8:39
As an old-school Metalhead, who always preferred thunderously "heavy" to that swarm-of-bees sounding "fast" Death Thrash, I find "The Sickness" to be a powerful evolutionary step from whence I came. I've carefully listened to several thousand albums over the years and this is, most definitely, among the best. Ironically the "Shout" cover does the least to inspire this aging rocker's opinion. Fans must check out "Fu's Forbidden Little Nicky Remix" of Stupify. It's one of the all time ass-kickers.

From: ninjapeter Date: September 18, 2005 at 0:22
This is listenable but not good. It is just rap put to repetitive heavy guitar and boring drums. All the tracks sound the same with some added sound effects. It reminds of a heavy Destiny's Child with (Wah) after every phrase. Don't spend much money on this you may be disappointed. The second album is a lot better. I rate this 6/10.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: August 24, 2013 at 21:06
Definitely not "classic metal" in any but the vaguest way, fitting squarely in the nu-meetal genre. Similar to Sevendust in their greater emphasis on melodies. It's a decent disc for the style, but, as with most nu-metal bands, I wasn't interested in buying anything they put out after. The best songs are the ones you hear on the radio anyway, including "Down With The Sickness," which is nearly ruined by the idiotic babbling in the middle: "No Mommy, don't do it again, I'll be a good boy!" An unfortunate concession to the trend of Korn-style mad-at-your-parents metal.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: March 2, 2015 at 21:56
Don't know what got into me, but I listened to this one again today. Expanding on my earlier comment, the first half of the album is pretty good, but the quality falls off very quickly after beginning with "Fear." Draiman's way of scat-rapping makes his words almost unintelligible--sometimes he sounds like he's singing in a foreign language, other times no language at all. I never liked the original version of "Shout," and don't much care for Disturbed's cover, but it isn't even the worst song. That one, hands down, has to be, "Conflict." Why it isn't called "Enemy" iis beyond me, because that's about the only word he sings. "Meaning Of Life" is a late highlight, but tracks 7-11 are all a waste.
