In 1999, American thrash metal seemingly dead, Testament now doown to Chuck and Eric and no label, and goddamn if they don't put out possibly the best album of their career! Holy shit! Chuck uses all of his voices, DaveLombardo is an absolute monster on drums, Steve DiGiorgio needs no introduction, and James Murphy on his third disc with the band is no slouch either. Add in an outstanding collection of songs and Andy Sneap's crystal-clear, but heavy-as-fuck production, and you've got a vicious beast of a record. Not a weak moment in the bunch. Albums like The New Order, Practce What You Preach, and Low are all fine and dandy, but for me, The Gathering has 'em all beat. Best tracks: "D.N.R.,' "Down For Life," "True Believer," "3 Days In Darkness," "Careful What You Wish For," "Allegiance" and "Sewn Shut Eyes."

If I recall (adding to my last comment) this was originallly self-released on the band's own Burnt Offerings "label."
