The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Brutal Metal
as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live
compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. Please only submit official

EPs and CD-singles from Mastodon are also welcome to be added, as
long as they are at least 4 songs in length.

Rolling Stone called Mastodon "the metal band for people who are too cool for metal." And sure enough, somewhat like Volbeat, they count a lot of non-metalheads among their fans. So here's their supposed masterpieces, an extremely complex, 50 minutes of hookless tempo changes, built around Brent Hinds's brain-bleed storyline (literally, the "plot" came to him after waking up from a coma after a drunken brawl). The story makes very little sense, and the music ... well, all the credit to the band for being able to come up with this stuff, and play it. Definitely a headphone record, probably enhanced by weed, or perhaps magic mushrooms. It's not as trippy-spacey as some would have you believe though, nor is it all that heavy-sludgy either (unless, again, you're not really into metal, and think Muse is pretty heavy). It will require repeated and careful listening to get anything out of it beyond a blur of aimless riffing.
