This album epitomizes everything 80s metal was about...Excellent! Fast, furious, hard & melodic...A real trailblazer!

I rememeber seing the video for love bites back then and never forgot the song since then. I think that tune has then become close to my fave songs with this band. I true classic album by the way....

The return of the 'technical' Priest sound which was lost on 'British Steel'...

From: Kim HP Date: October 9, 2003 at 23:03
Another masterpiece from Priest. This is almost as good as 'Screaming...', if not even better. The solo in 'Freewheel Burning' is one of the coolest solos ever. Again, no metal fan should be without this one.

Love bites is my favorite song

From: Defender Date: May 25, 2004 at 11:20
mhmm...not the best but better than many others

From: Big Papa K Date: July 7, 2004 at 18:04
I believe that this is the bands second best album. They finally write a consistently good album after having several patchy ones and there is some variety here. 'The Sentinel' and 'Freewheel Burning' are classic metal tracks, while songs such as 'Some Heads Are Gonna Roll' and 'Love Bites' are among their better written anthemic tracks. 10/10

I think Defender nailed it when he posted and i quote 'not the best, but better than many others'.DOTF is a d*mn good record. 'Freewheel Burning'--need i say more ? ----

Priest's most underrated album. Nobody ever mentions this one when discussing their best works. Loaded with great songs, not overplayed 'hits' like British Steel.

From: Blayde Date: December 21, 2004 at 3:01
Why is this album only rated 6.48/10? Are you people DEAF?!? Listen to it!!!

From: metal rulz Date: December 21, 2004 at 23:42
They got even better and created yet another super album! Defenders Of The Faith! Every song in this one are great! The solo on 'Freewheel Burning' is awesome! 'Rock Hard, Ride Free' is how I live my life, guys. 'Some Heads Are Gonna Roll'! I love this!

From: Metalhead66 Date: December 22, 2004 at 9:20

Another Good Judas album, otro buen disco del metal que no puede faltar en toda coleccion de un amante del Metal. Love Bites el mejor corte de hecho.

From: Painkiller Date: June 10, 2005 at 5:50
This album starts of with Freewheel Burning, one of my favorites. Jawbreaker, The Sentinel, Heavy Duty, and Defenders of the Faith are great songs too. I rank this album Priest's 4th best album. 1. Painkiller; 2. Sad Wings; 3. Angel of Retribution; 5. Jugulator

From: underworld king Date: February 14, 2010 at 21:44
This was my first JP album and it's still my favorite. Every song on this one rocks.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: December 23, 2013 at 16:44
Defenders Of The Faith is a really good, but often overlooked, Priest record whose biggest flaw is its totally-'80's production, complete with a cavernously-reverbed drum sound. Songs like "Rock Hard, Ride Free" and "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" are typical Priest anthems that, production aside, could've been found on any of the last three albums, while "Freewheel Burning," "The Sentinel" and "Jawbreaker" (one of the band's all-time hidden gems) clearly point the way forward, past the pop-metal detour of the next two albums, straight through to Painkiller. Weirdly, the only weak tracks are the last two, which don't seem like a real song, even together as they're intended to be heard.

A good album...the band was at its highest peak in popularity, specially in The States ..."Freewheel Burning","Jawbreaker","Love Bites" & "Eat Me Alive" are my faves in here...i own the vinyl since it came out in 1984...85/100

From: hair metal again Date: April 24, 2018 at 10:05
