If you notice that a particular Black Label Society CD release or compilation is missing from the list above, please submit that CD using the CD submission page. The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Brutal Metal as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. I've been pretty hard on Zakk over the years, no doubt. I still enjoy Black Label Society's first four albums a lot, but they definitely peaked with The Blessed Hellride. There have been some ups and downs, but none of the peaks have been nearly as high as the early albums. Having said that, Engines Of Creation is BLS's best work since Order Of The Black. These songs just sound livelier and more inspired than we've heard in a long time, and unlike on the immediate predecessor Doom Crew Inc., they don't overstay their welcome. Maybe it's to do with Zakk's side hustle in Pantera (and "Gatherer Of Souls" has an unmistakable "Walk"-like shuffle to its verses). Zakk still has a voice like a boiled potato, and his guitar hogs all the frequencies that a bass might occupy, but heavy highlights abound, including "Name In Blood," "Broken And Blind," "Above And Below," "The Gallows," "Lord Humungus," and "The Stranger."

Even the three ballads are all decent. I'd been expecting the worst out of "Ozzy's Song" when it was announced as a song title. I pictured a bunch of drunk, aging muscleheads with their arms around each other in a blubbery, last-call singalong. But it's fine, though my least favorite of the three.
