Don't be fooled by the name Dez Fafara: DevilDriver has NOTHIGN in common with his previous band, Coal Chamber. Where Coal Chamber dealt in simplistic, highly repetitive riffs and vocals, DevilDriver is must more along thrash/death lines. Tons of groove, complex guitar melodies everywhere, kinda reminding of Soilwork and In Flames in their circa-2000 prime, but with a touch of brutal death metal in the form of jackhammering drums and Dez's vocals. DevilDriver is a band that is pushing metal forward, without being over-the-top inaccessible death. If you're into extreme metal, don't write them off just because of the Coal Chamber connection. You'd be seriously missing out if you did.
