| Epicus Doomicus from Texicus! It's no surprise Robert Lowe would later join Candlemass, as Solitude Aeturnus traffics in similar majestic waters. The production isn't as vast as the Swedes though, so the music has a bit of a stripped-down feel. The exception is Lowe himself, whose voice comes swathed in echo and a bit low in the mix, as though he's calling to us from a great distance. Unfortunately, this makes it hard to understand what he's singing much of the time, and gives his vocals kind of a flat, wordless quality. Very strong melodies, though. Best tracks for me are "Seeds of the Desolate," "The Hourglass," "Beneath The Fading Sun," and especially "Black Castle." It's easy to hear their influence on 21st-century American doom bands like Spirit Adrift, Apostle of Solitude (appropriately enough), and even early Pallharer.
