Hit the scene all the way to its core when released. Together with bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation redefined the death metal genre. Their intensely brutal (and true recognizable) variation of death that would kick open doors for all bands to come. Doug Cerrito resides in the ranks of Hate Eternal these days, while Suffocation future drummer, Dave Culross is in Malevolent Creation (if I'm correct) Essential bloodletting for the death fans. For the newbies to the genre: this is a classi

This CD is a monster. But I still prefer "Pierced From Within" or "Despise The Sun". Suffocation were one of the greatest death metal bands ever, hands down. Even though they are gone, they are still one of my top 5 favorite death metal bands. Buy or die.

Great disc for Cannibal Corpse fans. Oddly enough George Corpsegrinder did back up vocals on "reincarnation" and "Mass Obliteration". Roadrunner just recently (2003) released a double disc Cd containing both "Pierced From Within" and "Effigy of the Forgotten". I would recommend that for those unfamiliar with this brutal band but prefer myself to own the individual copies. Money well spent. ".....love is the law." the true know.

These guy's are to the death metal genre what mom and apple pie are to america. The true king's of death metal. Not just full on blast like vital remains or hate eternal(yawn yawn)thia is blast mixed with groove and the best riffs and drum beats one can think of.This plate of brutality is best served warm with a side order of holy shit because that is all you will be able to say for 2 or 3 week's year's and soforth.

Just saw these guys with their new singer Ricky, I'll tell you right now, as good as the discs are, they do them no justice, if you ever want to see a killer live band, go check out these guys, Terrance Hobbs is one of the coolest dudes in metal, outside of being a legendary death metal guitarist, an 18 yr old girl couldnt get into the place they played, so Terrance brought the entire band outside to her, she broke down in tears, I about broke down in tears, selfless acts like this are rare, but they do happen, they allowed her to stand outside the door where she could see them play, those are not only killer musicians, but good people, props to Suffocation, btw, Ricky is fkn awesome, he's not trying to be Glen, he has his own style, and he kills it.
